Flash back thirty years for this one. I remembered that it existed, and I couldn't remember if it was something I watched with my parents or not, so though it would kill some time.
It's not terrible, but it's not very good. Very much comes across as some pipe dream of some bitter bored woman.
The characters are such caricatures, yet they never go far enough to be funny. But things like the lusty romance writer with her giant mansion from her best-selling books are too far and absurd.
It's hard to say how many of the problems come from the original novel, and how many are from the movie script. The acting is competent enough, and watching Meryl Streep chew the scenery is fun.
But then things like "housewife can't control her children" are just so tired and unbelievable that I couldn't stand the perpetuation of stereotypes.
Although, not that bad to watch a woman finally have taken too much shit and get her life back in order. Too bad she felt she needed to tune that improvement into a revenge scheme.
